  • Daniel C. Stein
    President, JDS Capital/Chairman and CEO, eMusic

    A serial entrepreneur, Daniel Stein is president of JDS Capital Management, Inc., an investment firm based in New York that invests in private, public and distressed debt and equity. He is CEO of Dimensional Associates, the operating company that manages the private equity investments made by JDS. Dimensional owns a variety of digital media assets, including eMusic, The Orchard and Qwikker Technology, LLC. Stein is also currently Chairman and CEO of eMusic, a role he resumed in 2008 after having held it from 2003 to 2005 when Dimensional Associates acquired eMusic from Vivendi Universal's VUNet USA.

    In 2002, Stein was CEO of TTR Technologies, a copy protection technology company, whose assets were sold to Macrovision (NASDAQ:MVSN). Stein was president of Javu Technologies from 2000-2001. Javu licenses software and services to corporations that store, manage, deliver or repurpose video assets. Prior to joining Javu, Stein was president, chief operating officer and director of the Wedding List Company from 1999-2000, an Internet company with retail outlets specializing in the wedding gift and registry business. The Wedding List was sold to Martha Stewart/Omnimedia in 2001.

    In 1994, Stein founded Burly Bear Network, a company providing cable programming and online services to college students. From inception to 1999, Burly Bear became the largest college cable television network and online service, servicing eight million households throughout the country. Burly Bear was sold in 1997 to Lorne Michaels, owner of Broadway Video and creator and producer of Saturday Night Live. From 1992-1993 Stein worked in the executive-training program at retailer Lechters Housewares. Stein graduated from Cornell University in 1992.

  • Tom Etergino
    Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer

    Tom Etergino is Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer of eMusic, reporting directly to eMusic Chairman and CEO Danny Stein. He is responsible for all eMusic worldwide day-to-day operating and financial functions.

    Etergino brings to eMusic 20 years of finance and operating experience as CFO, Treasurer and CAO of several public and private companies. Most recently, he led the IPO for AtriCure (Nasdaq: ATRC) where he was Executive Vice President and CFO responsible for all finance, tax, treasury, real estate, financial planning and analysis, investor relations and human resources functions.

    Prior to AtriCure, Etergino was hired by private equity firm Warburg Pincus as CFO of LSSi Corp., a world-leading provider of advanced directory assistance database services. Prior to LSSi, he was Treasurer and Chief Accounting Officer of DoubleClick Inc., where he managed the finance activities of the company, spanning 24 countries worldwide. While in his capacity at DoubleClick, the company raised more than $1 billion, completed an IPO and closed 15 acquisitions.

    Etergino was a Senior Manager at Coopers & Lybrand in charge of worldwide audits of such multinational clients as Johnson & Johnson. Additionally, for two years Etergino lived in Eastern Europe, working as a consultant to U.S. multinationals such as Philip Morris, Ford Motor Company, 3M and AT&T. Etergino holds a BS in Business Administration and Accounting from Washington & Lee University and is a CPA.

  • Cedric C. Deniau
    Executive Vice President, Product and Chief Technology Officer

    Cedric Deniau is Executive Vice President, Product and Chief Technology Officer at eMusic. Reporting directly to eMusic Chairman and CEO Danny Stein, Deniau sets eMusic's product and technology direction and leads the teams responsible for innovating new ways to deliver consumers the most immersive, authentic music retail experience. Upon joining eMusic as V.P. of Technology in 2003, Deniau defined a new system architecture and hired and led the team that rebuilt the eMusic Web site in less than six months. He is also responsible for eMusic's security program by assuring compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard.

    Previously, Deniau was director of engineering at WagerWorks Inc., a world leading developer of highly entertaining, legally compliant, Internet gambling solutions. He was responsible for the complete life cycle of the platform and games, as well as release management, technical writing and customer site development. Prior to WagerWorks Inc., Deniau led the engineering team at digital music locker company Myplay Inc. where he architected the initial launch of the Myplay service and successfully released the site in less than 100 days. He oversaw multiple subsequent releases including the launch of Myplay's robust and flexible subscription engine. While at Infoseek, Deniau authored an XML preference and layout technology for personalization and wrote tools to integrate partner content and applications into the Infoseek development platform.

    Deniau attends the New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business MBA program and has an M.S. and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas.

  • Kip Morgan
    Chief Marketing Officer

    Kip Morgan, eMusic's Chief Marketing Officer, is a leading direct marketing and internet executive with more than twenty years of consumer marketing experience. He is responsible for leading eMusic's worldwide marketing operations, driving the next phase of the company's growth and overseeing traditional marketing functions, branding and business development. Morgan reports directly to eMusic Chairman and CEO Danny Stein. He previously served as vice president for direct marketing, access and audience at EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), one of the largest U.S. internet service providers, with an award-winning reputation for outstanding customer service and its suite of online products and services.

    At EarthLink, Morgan helped to rapidly grow the company's customer base from 200,000 subscribers to more than five million, and spearheaded development, implementation and analysis of direct marketing initiatives for all EarthLink- and PeoplePC-branded consumer products and services. As vice president, marketing, loyalty and analytics for EarthLink's PeoplePC division, he led the development of the PeoplePC brand, as well as the strategic direction of all acquisition marketing and retention programs, growing that subscription service from 200,000 subscribers to more than 1.6 million. Morgan was also responsible for leading direct marketing efforts for EarthLink's flagship premium dial-up, High-Speed Cable/DSL and Business to Business products.

    Prior to EarthLink, Morgan held senior media planning and supervisory positions with WPP's Grey Global Group and with Omnicom's Altschiller Reitzfeld Davis/Tracy-Locke, both in New York. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Marlboro College in Marlboro, Vermont.

  • Joel Schoenfeld
    Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel

    Joel Schoenfeld, eMusic's Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, is a thirty-year veteran of the music business and is recognized as a leading expert on international intellectual property, competition, and privacy issues. He has served as a co-managing director of Dimensional Associates, Inc., since 2003, and prior to his role at eMusic was president and CEO of Dimensional Music Publishing, which was built upon the acquisition of the copyrights and assets of DreamWorks Music Publishing.

    Schoenfeld previously served for over a decade as general counsel and senior vice president at BMG Entertainment, the entertainment division of Bertelsmann AG, overseeing a twenty-six-person department and all legal and business affairs of BMG worldwide. During that time, Schoenfeld served as an officer or director or both for more than eighty Bertelsmann-related companies in more than thirty-five countries from 1989 to 2001, and served on the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) board of directors for more than ten years.

    Prior to BMG, Schoenfeld was general counsel and executive vice president at the RIAA, where he worked for 12 years.

    Schoenfeld has also worked with the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) for nearly twenty years, and served on its board of directors from 1990 to 2002. He was elected chairman of the IFPI Council in 1999, and served in that role for four years. His work on policy matters affecting the entertainment business, particularly e-commerce, led to his appointment as one of twelve commissioners on the Industry Advisory Commission to the World Intellectual Property Organization in the late 1990s. During this time he also served on the European Commission's Committee of Experts for Copyright and Neighboring Rights and was an intellectual property advisor to the TransAtlantic Business Dialog (TABD).

    As a consultant from 2000 to 2004, Schoenfeld's clients included MusicMatch, Touchtunes Digital Jukebox, The United States Copyright Office, Orange Mobile (Israel), Napster, Listen.com, BMG Music, FullAudi, Avalon Digital Marketing, Comverse Technologies, Hed Arzi, Your Mobile/Moviso and TTR Technologies, among others.

  • Madeline Milne
    Managing Director, Europe

    As eMusic's Managing Director for Europe, Madeleine Milne has overall responsibility for the development and marketing of eMusic's business in Europe. Since joining eMusic in 2006, Milne has many notable achievements, including management of the launch of eMusic's pan-European service in September 2006 and building a wide range of corporate partnerships. These efforts have helped establish the company as the number two digital music service in Europe. She was named one of Management Today's 35 Women under 35 for 2008.

    Milne previously held several senior positions in the music industry, including Publishing Manager for Classic FM and Gramophone magazines at Haymarket Publishing, one of the UK's leading consumer and trade magazine publishers. Milne also served as Director of Masterprize, the world's pre-eminent competition for classical composition, which has become a major catalyst in the development of new music. At Masterprize, Milne was responsible for overseeing the International Composing Award, a worldwide initiative which is a partnership between Classic FM, EMI, The Gramophone, London Symphony Orchestra and America's National Public Radio.

  • Cathy Halgas Nevins
    Vice President, Corporate Communications

    Cathy Halgas Nevins brings an unusual combination of experience with independent labels and artists, digital music and e-commerce to her role at eMusic. She manages all corporate communications, consumer public relations and social media presences for eMusic, winning recognition for its pioneering positions on DRM-free formats, lower music prices and consumer-focused features. Since she joined the company in 2006, Nevins has directed public relations campaigns for the launch of eMusic's European sites, its over-the-air music download service with AT&T, and its introduction of DRM-free audiobooks.

    Prior to eMusic, Nevins was the U.S. head of communications for U.K.-based independent DVD and music label Eagle Rock Entertainment, where she developed the company's entertainment industry and consumer positioning. Nevins also served as the director of public relations for online retailer Bluefly, Inc., where she helped position the company as a leader in e-commerce. Nevins was the director of communications and corporate marketing at Myplay.com, the company that invented the digital music locker, where she supported the launch of the Web site contributing to the acquisition of more than four million customers.

    Nevins began her music business career in the mid-90s as the founder and principal of Melomania Publicity, an independent music publicity firm with major and independent record label clients. The firm helped launch the careers of artists such as Tracy Bonham, Ben Folds Five, Letters to Cleo and Sloan. Nevins holds a B.A. from Wheaton College.
