SELECTED + COLLECTED” COMPILATION CELEBRATES eMUSIC SELECTS
ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

In-House A&R Program Curates Emerging Musical Talent

NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2009 -- eMusic, the world’s largest retailer of independent music and the world’s second-largest digital music service after iTunes, today announced the release of Selected + Collected, a curated digital compilation from the site’s editorial staff.

The album, featuring sixteen tracks from sixteen different artists, is being released in celebration of the first anniversary of the eMusic Selects program, an A&R initiative that showcases promising yet underexposed talent.

The compilation represents emerging, independent – and often unsigned – music, including the much-touted Obits, Deastro, and She Keeps Bees. It is intended to reinforce eMusic’s emphasis on strong editorial, handpicked signings, and passionate support for outstanding music across all genres.

“For the past four months, through meticulous review, we have been working on putting together a compilation in the spirit of the Rough Trade counter-culture comps, but based around our own Selects program,” said Yancey Strickler, eMusic's Editor-in-Chief. “We’re incredibly proud of this result, which features 16 songs from 16 new artists across several genres -- 90% of them unsigned.”

Fans can download the new release, along with detailed liner notes about each band, at http://www.emusic.com/album/11379/11379153.html. The complete track listing for Selected + Collected features:

  1. Girls, “Hellhole Ratrace”
  2. Obits, “Light Sweet Crude”
  3. Glasser, “Apply”
  4. My Teenage Stride, “Weirder Nightmare”
  5. Eagle Boston, “Satan Highway”
  6. Salem, “Redlights”
  7. Homeboy Sandman, “Buttermilk”
  8. Altair Nouveau, “Cosmos”
  9. Rademacher, “If U Got Some Magic”
  10. She Keeps Bees, “Bow”
  11. Bow Ribbons, “Peace Sundress”
  12. Victoire, “A Door into the Dark”
  13. Man/Miracle, “Pushing and Shoving”
  14. Deastro, “Kurgan Wave Number One”
  15. Pains of Being Pure at Heart, “Kurt Cobain’s Cardigan”
  16. Jumbling Towers, “The Kanetown City Rips”

In addition to this release, eMusic has also played a significant role in generating sales for up-and-coming independent artists in the past. Notably, the site was responsible for approximately 43% of SoundScan-reported digital album sales for Beirut’s first release, Gulag Orkestar (Ba Da Bing Records) and for approximately 74% of Soundscan-reported digital album sales of highly regarded artist Yeasayer’s first release, All Hour Cymbals (We Are Free).
