eMUSIC ADDS ICONIC ELECTRONIC LABEL WARP RECORDS;
CATALOGUE PASSES 5.5 MILLION TRACKS
Warp’s Grizzly Bear to Headline eMusic SXSW Showcase on March 19
NEW YORK—March 16, 2009—eMusic, the internet's corner music store, today announced the addition of one of electronic music’s most storied labels, Warp Records, to their digital music catalogue, which now surpasses 5.5 million tracks.
Founded in Sheffield, England in 1989 by Steve Beckett and Rob Mitchell, Warp has played an integral role in the ongoing evolution of electronic music with output from noted experimentalists such as Aphex Twin, Autechre, and LFO. In the past few years, the label has expanded its A&R vision with a string of successes in the rock world, including the eMusic SxSW showcase headliner, Grizzly Bear.
The first batch of recordings on eMusic includes a selection of Warp classics and, true to eMusic’s editorial sensibilities, the site has recruited noted music writers to highlight what they feel are essential recordings from the label, including LFO’s Frequencies, Nightmares on Wax’s A Word of Science and Autechre’s Amber,.
“Record after record, Warp has been one of the most consistently innovative labels in modern music,” said Yancey Strickler, eMusic Senior Director of Editorial and Features. “We’re excited to introduce our customers to our favorites from their back catalogue, and look forward to adding more artists in the coming months.”
Grizzly Bear performs at the eMusic official South by Southwest showcase on Thursday, March 19 at Central Presbyterian Church in Austin. Girls and the Rural Alberta Advantage will also perform. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
