Raconteurs, Gomez and Beirut See Heavy Download Action

NEW YORK, June 15, 2006 – eMusic, the world’s largest digital retailer of independent music and the world’s second largest digital music retailer after iTunes, today announced a slate of new label signings including V2 Music (White Stripes, the Raconteurs, Moby), Palm Pictures (Baaba Maal, Nortec Collective, Zero 7) and Velour Music (Sonya Kitchell, Soulive). eMusic also welcomed a number of significant independent classical labels and European label aggregators.

“Independent labels understand that eMusic reaches their customer. Our subscriber base is passionately interested in music outside the mainstream and as a result, we’re able to expand the sales of independent music,” said eMusic President and CEO David Pakman. “For example, we’ve seen very significant numbers of downloads for new releases from both developing and established indie artists like the Raconteurs, Mission of Burma, Gomez and Beirut, all of whom are currently charting on our Top 20 Downloaded Albums PowerChart™.”

Other label signings include German label SPV, known for Motorhead, Saxon, John Lee Hookerand Popul Vuh; prominent Scandinavian label group Bonnier Amigo; contemporary jazz label Prana Entertainment, home to Marilyn Scott and Chris Pierce; and Toucan Cove, whose Saving Jane is currently on Billboard’s Heatseeker Chart.
