If you're looking for a traditional Christmas album, they don't get any more traditional than this; The Mormons kick it so old school that they make Bing Crosby and Irving Berlin look cutting-edge by comparison. The world's most famous choral group (which gave its first performance exactly 29 days after the Mormons arrived in Utah in 1847) was also the first recording artist to make a specialty of Christmas music (even B.C. — Before Crosby). Dubbed "America's Choir" by President Reagan, the group has already recorded at least a dozen Christmas albums, and so for this 2000 release, the MTC dug a little deeper for some less frequently heard carols, such as "What Shall We Give to the Babe in the Manger?" and "Traditional Catalonian (French) Carol." A few more familiar airs ("Joy to the World," "I Wonder as I Wander") are also included, and the overall effect is to make this one of the more satisfying holiday packages out there.
