One-man bedroom electro-rock force of nature

Biography

Randolph Chabot, an indie electronica producer from Sterling Heights, MI, releases music under a variety of monikers, the most acclaimed of which is Deastro. Chabot began making music as an adolescent, and after moving away from the Detroit area for a few years to attend college, he moved back home into the basement of his parents' house, where he based his studio. His first release to garner significant acclaim was Young Planets/Time the Teenage Twister (2007), a double album co-billed to Deastro and another of his monikers, Our Brother the Megazord. In the publication Real Detroit, local critics Jeff Milo and Thomas Matich declared Young Planets/Time the Teenage Twister one of their favorite albums of the year. The following year's Keepers, a digital album exclusive to eMusic, was also acclaimed, particularly in the music blogosphere, where it was a favorite among many. Also in 2008, Chabot associated his Deastro moniker with Ghostly International, an indie electronic label based in Ann Arbor, MI, making his label debut on the Ghostly Swim compilation with "Light Powered." Determined to take Deastro to the next level, Chabot expanded his electro-pop sound with a full band for his next album, and the fantasy fiction-based Moondagger followed in June of 2009.
