Biography

Jackdawg were a supergroup of sorts who never really got a chance to get out of the blocks. A trio featuring rock veterans John McFee (Doobie Brothers, Clover) on guitar, Stu Cook (Creedence Clearwater Revival) on bass, and Keith Knudsen (Doobie Brothers) on drums, Jackdawg were formed from the ashes of Southern Pacific, with McFee, Cook, and Knudsen opting to continue playing together while keyboardist Kurt Howell chose to pursue a solo career. The trio began recording tracks at McFee's Lizard Rock Studio in Solvang, CA, in 1990 but the project was never released. After Knudsen's death in 2005, McFee approached SonicPast Music, founded and run by former Blues Magoos member Joey Stec, about releasing the tracks, which finally saw the light of day when the self-titled Jackdawg appeared from the label in 2009.
