Nothing new lately, but they do have a 25% off sale for those needing to top up but can't wait until the next 50% off sale.

Just noticed that the two Sarah McLachlan albums which dropped over there recently have apparently joined the stuff from the previous week from Peter Gabriel and Flaming Lips in the non-existent-and-shouldn't-have-been-here-in-the-1st-place-page-not-found area.

Not free, but only $1.08 (or .54 for those of us who buy half off credits)
These guys are really good-Remind me a bit of The Jam.
Enjoy

Along with the Vigilantes of Love, several from VOL frontman Bill Mallonee are still quite affordable, and one is listed as Bill Mallonee and Vigilantes of Love.

If you like that alt-country / Americana / jangly Byrds like thing, Mallonee is the ticket.

Hmm. This album just dropped, with a STARTING price of $9.99. If that's what it means when the majors come to Amie Street, they can stay the hell away.

Bruce Cockburn

[EDIT]Heres another one, from Dave Alvin and Shout Factory:

Looks like they're all Sony related releases.

Geez, I hope Sony doesn't start flooding Amie Street with overpriced product and push out the indies. Haven't they pissed in enough people's drinks already?

While the Indie album sales have remained pretty much the same the last 18 months, Sony's album sales have plummeted (from what I have read) -- maybe Sony is just trying to make sure that if they can't sell albums, then no one else should either....

The Bruce Cockburn album has been removeed from the New Releases page, but if you search for his name, you can still get to the album.

Gotta hope the $9.99 starting price for Sony stuff is a horrible, horrible mistake.

Does anybody else get different lists of new additions when looking at the old Amie site versus the new one? The following have all been added yesterday and today according to the old site (http://beta.amiestreet.com/browse/new), but they don't show up on the new site on the New Releases page or when I go through several pages on Browse Music, sorted by Date Added (although they'll come up if you do a search).

- Speak by Go Time
- Trillmix "Something to say" by Trillogy
- Brains New Beat by CuLcHaR
- American too by Signal to Shore
- All I've Got by Joey Gerber
- 7 Shades of Wrong by VISION

Interesting, I hadn't noticed the difference.

Sony has definitely invaded Amie Street. there are close to 30 albums by Elvis, if you search by artist.

Kudos to Amie Street for not flooding the new releases with these albums which were initially priced higher than they are at Amazon. Ironically, I think Sony will see much less money by pricing these high to begin with, than they would if they were going by one of Amie Street's more standard pricing algorithms.

"I think Sony will see much less money by pricing these high to begin with, than they would if they were going by one of Amie Street's more standard pricing algorithms."

Hmm ... I'm not sure this is the case. By making releases available at Amie, Sony seems to be covering its bases. If the recordings were made cheap up front, than maybe excitement would have been caused by the rush of users trying to get discounted product. But as things stand, dedicated Amie users could get these recordings with recs and discount credit sales for less than what they would cost here. Ultimately, Sony may be interested in cultivating profit by being in all the outlets rather than exclusively at one.

Sony opens an office on Amie Street

I'm not sure what I think of this. I guess it's a good thing, so long as the Sony pricing doesn't affect the pricing structure they've always used for everyone else. I also hope they don't stop with the occasional credit sales, especially the 50% off sales, because those plus credit for RECs will make the Sony releases cheaper there than they are here. Right now they have a bunch of good Sony releases priced at $4.99 (link is on the homepage). They also seem to be encoded at much higher bit rates than the releases on eMusic (I've seen several at 320).

And as usual not available in the UK/Europe. Amie seem more and more to concentrate on deals for the US market. They haven't even bothered to reply to my last few enquiries.
Doofy Sep 22 at 9:52 AM EDT RE: Rolling free on amie street thread (part 7)
in response to the message by muggsy
Yes, we will see about the 50% sales! Hard to see how this helps Sony all that much...presumably any Amie sale (at full price) is just one that doesn't happen at Amazon or iTunes, but that's their lookout.

Something for everyone on that sale page...Surely, everyone who wants C+C Music Factory has it by now! :)

There are some Miles bargains to be had! In a Silent Way is free, and On the Corner is half-free...presumably these are errors, so get 'em now. Also, Jack Johnson is at 2 bucks (for 2 tracks).

@Donno,
I agree, there's too much not available in the UK on Amie Street. I sometimes find that a problem here too, but I still manage find enough for my (grandfathered) 40 downloads a month (I go hunting through the Freshly Ripped everyday). I think that because these two sites are US based they will tend to have a US bias.
Donno Sep 22 at 1:18 PM EDT RE: Rolling free on amie street thread (part 7)
in response to the message by JTO
I agree there's plenty here for UK subscibers but lately at Amie it's getting thin on the ground. US biased I can understand to some extent but it's the same old story with all these services - coming soon to your region - and it never happens!

Power Under Control

From AMG:

Power Under Control, a 2003 release by R&B singer/songwriter Eddie Howard, hardly sounds like it's about the Bush administration, despite the presence of a ditty entitled "Let Freedom Ring" and several other suggestive titles. "Everything I've Wanted to Say," for example, could be about George W. Bush's State of the Union address that year, another lecture delivered "In the Bad Times" where the fear of terrorism can certainly lead to "Another Sleepless Night." Even more dodgy is "Waiting on Your Return," which could be one of those message songs, this time sent from the State Department to Osama Bin Laden.Although actually completely irrelevant to any real discussion of Howard's creativity, the preceding diatribe nonetheless gives a taste of the alienation this artist must have felt in this period, professing to be developing a style he calls "romance with an edge" when all around him performers were getting hits chattering about the size of women's posteriors or the style of their under-things. Also describing himself as "a romantic old soul, but...not very old," Howard's favorite recording artists include Babyface and, needless to say, Teddy Pendergrass. If this were country and western in the new millennium, Howard would be considered a new traditionalist. Growing up in Louisiana, he began playing guitar at the age of seven with lessons supplied by MacArthur Jones, an uncle who worked as a blues musician. From there the versatile Howard added bass, keyboards, and trumpet, beginning to perform strictly original romantic material at the tender age of 11. Howard gigged with a variety of local bands and joined the Air Force following high school. In the military he picked up the nickname of "Eddie the Entertainer" and toured in a variety show entitled "Tops and Blue." Howard started up a group called Real when he finished his service stint, the set list combining R&B and rap. Howard's home base is Southern California, where he settled during a string of solo engagements at clubs such as The Roxy. Power Under Control came about after several years of intense work in his own studio, Howard also producing and writing material for other soul artists. He should not be confused with a long line of people with recording credits named Eddie Howard, most specifically the old-school soul songwriter who collaborated with Donny Hathaway in the early '70s.

- Thank you !

For about less than a day ago, there was some very good vintage blues compilations in the news section, they seem to be removed now but my links still work:
Vol 1 - Vol 2 - Vol 3
- There was also a vol 4 and 6.
- Will try to dig them up later.

Edit:

Ah ! Here they are:
Vol 4 - Vol 6
- Most of them are still free.
